【講師紹介】
　ハーバード大学卒業。Ph. D(インディアナ大学)。歴史学専攻。現在、アメリカ・インディアナ大学准教授。著書・論文多数。アトウッド教授はアメリカを代表するモンゴル研究者です。彼の研究分野は、モンゴル帝国史から現代モンゴル社会論、中モ関係史、モンゴル高原における知の歴史や社会史など多岐にわたります。今回の講義は英語で行われます。（日本語での概要説明あり）

【講義概要（Abstract）】
　The Secret History of the Mongols is well-known as the first and perhaps greatest work of Mongolian history and literature. Combining prose, poetry, and brilliant psychological insight, it provides an unexpectedly intimate look at Chinggis Khan and his son Ögedei. But where did this work come from? When and why was it written? In the lecture, professor Christopher Atwood will present the results of his research, using tools of source-critical analysis developed in classical and Biblical studies to analyze the composition of the Secret History and other works written around the same time. As he will argue, the history was primarily composed in 1252, as part of Möngke Qa’an’s institution of yearly sacrifices at Kürel-Gü Mountain, and the bestowal of hereditary titles on Chinggis Khan and his sons Ögedei and Tolui. It thus was born out of internecine conflict between branches of the Mongol family and Möngke’s own nativist revival, a birth evident throughout the work.
