| Prof. Whang and two other staff members from Daejin University in South Korea visited The University of Shiga Prefecture |
On July 22, Prof. Whang (Dean of the Office of External affairs), Mr. Heo (Manager of the Department of the International Cooperation Team) and Ms. Lee (a staff member of the Department of the International Cooperation Team), all from Daejin University, visited President Soga. This visit was a part of their regular overseas research.

Daejin University is located in Pochon City, about 40 kilometers to the northeast of the center of Seoul, South Korea. About 11,000 students are studying in five colleges and 41 departments at Daejin University which was established in 1991, four years earlier than our university. Daejin University has campuses in China because of the schoolfs strong emphasis on international exchange. Prof. Whang outlined one of the educational aims of Daejin University which is to increase the number of Chinese language and cultural specialists. He also briefly explained the Demilitarized Research Institute which in cooperation with UNESCO promotes research projects on the ecological balance of the DMZ (demilitarized zone) along the 38th parallel between South Korea and North Korea.
After their call on President Soga, they visited the USPfs School of Engineering. Prof. Hirokawa (Head of the Material Science Department) and other professors shared information about the research they are currently doing in their respective specialties. They exchanged in-depth information and ideas about material science, as Prof. Whang specializes in this area.
