| Entrance Ceremony Held to Welcome the University of Shiga Prefecturesfs Newest Students |
The University of Shiga Prefecturefs entrance ceremony was held on Sunday, April 4th, 2010 at Hikone City Culture Plaza. 572 undergraduates, 21 transfer students and 113 graduate students or 706 students in total have started a new chapter in their educational careers.
At the ceremony, School President Naohiro Soga matriculated the new students and introduced the three educational mottoes of the University of Shiga Prefecture (USP) as a welcome message.
1. gLake Biwa is our campus. Humanity is our text.h
2. gA university where people can grow.h
3. gTake root in the community, learn from the community, and contribute to the community.h
The fist President, Toshitaka Hidaka, who was a leading ethologist, stated the second motto speculatively when USP was founded. It means gChange passive attitudes into positive ones. Take a chance in your college life and educate yourself, do not rely on others to educate you.h He hoped that the USP students would become young leaders who can blaze their own paths with power of execution and knowledge, no matter how society changes in the future.
Shiga Governor Yukiko Kada and the other honored guests attending the ceremony congratulated the new USP students. The student body was represented by Naohiro Mitani, an undergraduate student from the School of Human Nursing and Tatsuya Adachi, a graduate student from the School of Engineering, who both pledged to do their best on behalf of the rest of the students.
